Bleeding Edge TV 265: A look at our HP HDX Dragon giveaway

You should all know by now that we are going to be giving away a sleek, slick, awesome HDX Dragon computer prize package as part of the contest. It amounts to just about $5,200 worth of prizes if you were to go out and buy everything on your own. Pretty sick, right?

Well, we wanted to give you a look at exactly what you would be walking away with if you won. In this episode, we show off everything. The Dragon computer, all the software, all the games, and all the Blu-ray movies. We run down the computer specs as well, and we clue you in on what we will be doing to pick a winner.

We will be posting more about the contest and our method for choosing a winner in a bit more detail tomorrow. It’s late, and I’ve been moving all day…but at the very least, we had to get this video up for you guys at midnight, because we know that some of you are hardcores. We couldn’t leave you hanging.

A big thank you goes out to HP for sponsoring this contest, and this episode.

CES 2008 Video: All about Blu-ray

Sony showed up in force for CES 2008 with a bevy of Blu-ray players in tow. Check the video above for a good run down of the Blu-ray technology. Some of the new interactive features are sure to impress, although many of the features have been available within HD DVD for some time.

Take note of the awkward cut that occurs when we ask them about the whole format war thing and the fact that studios are jumping over to Blu-ray left and right. That is when they stopped and told us they didn’t want to talk about that subject. We pushed the issue a bit, but they wouldn’t budge, so we just cut that portion out. Not sure what the big deal was though, I mean, it seems victory may be at hand for the Blu-ray side of things.

CES 2008 Video: Alienware Area 51 M15x Laptop

New this week from Alienware is their desktop replacement laptop, the Area 51 M15x.  Weighing in at only 7 pounds, with a battery life of 4 hours (and the added bonus of a second battery), and a rear cooling system, the M15x is the only 15” laptop to feature Intel’s Core 2 Extreme 2.8 gHz processor.

With a screen resolution of 1920x1080, the M15x sports true 1080p to fully exploit the binary graphics - it can switch between its NVIDIA 8800 512 mhz graphics card and its integrated Intel card, which is perfect for getting the most out of DVDs viewed on the integrated player.  It also has an output to enjoy those Blu-Ray movies on a big screen. Alienware’s Area 51 M15x is available at a price point of around $2200 to $2300.

Bleeding Edge TV 156: Samsung K5, K3, T9, and BD-P1200 Details

We talk to Samsung about their K5, T9, and K3 MP3 players, all of which have a couple of unique features for those looking to get away from the whole iPod thing. We also get a look at their newly updated Blu-Ray player, the BD-P1200. The BD-P1200 will retail for $799. Lastly, we take a look at the new 65 Series LCD, which will probably retail for $2999. It has three HDMI inputs, and much improved image capabilities.

Bleeding Edge TV 137: All About HD DVD

We stopped by to chat with HD DVD Association representative David Carlson. Dave gives us a quick glimpse into the format, and the benefits it provides over standard definition DVD (looks a lot better), as well as the Blu-Ray format (less expensive for consumers to adopt.) He also goes into some of the more interactive features of HD DVD, such as navigating menus and settings while the movie is playing. For the full scoop, check the video.

Bleeding Edge TV 127: LG Super Multi Blue BH-100 Player

We know the HD DVD vs. Blu-Ray war is going hot and heavy, and LG looks to capitalize on that with their BH-100 hybrid Blu-ray HD DVD player. If you don’t get it yet, this bad boy can play just about any optical media you can throw at it, supporting DVDs, Blu-ray discs, and HD DVD content as well. Price is a bit steep at $1199 USD, but true videophiles may not even notice when they realize that, for them, the format war no longer exists. The LG Super Multi Blue BH-100 Player officially hits retail stores today, despite being available in small quantities for a little over a week now.

CES 2007 Video: Blu-Ray vs. HD DVD

Okay, forget all the corporate-speak we have been getting on the issue. We went around and ask people wandering the floor at CES which format they liked and thought would win out in the end. We got quite a few interesting responses, many of which seeming to come from people who don’t even know that a format war even exists.

CES 2007 Video: Dolby Booth Tour

We stopped by the Dolby booth while at CES to take a look and listen to their latest and greatest technologies. Of course, we had the film crew in tow, and were able to capture a full tour of their booth. Check the video to find out the latest from Dolby, as well as some innovations that are coming down the pike.

CES 2007 Video: MX Talks Blu-ray Network Games On The Bus

Both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD feature advanced technologies to provide interactive features to consumers. We interviewed Ole Lutjens on the bus to CES and he told us about some upcoming network aware games coming to Blu-ray discs.

Bleeding Edge 075: CES 2007 Video: The Monorail Interview

While on the monorail coming back from CES we interviewed Larry. He’s here in Las Vegas for CES because he is a home theater enthusiast. He wants to know if Blue-ray or HD-DVD will win in the format war - what do you think?
