We got our hands on the Hauppauge HD PVR 1212 personal video recorder, and we bring you a review of this unit in this episode. The Hauppage HD PVR 1212 connects to your HDTV peripherals using component cable, and then goes out to your display over component as well. It captures the video output live, and records it to a computer, which will then let you edit that video. Gear Live Turns 5, gets to wear big boy pants!

Whoa! Gear Live is now five years old—can you believe that? I sure can’t. It seems like it was just yesterday that I started up this little blog, to share my thoughts on consumer electronics in my spare time, and eventually getting a friend to help me post some news. Before we knew it, this become my full-time gig, and we were adding writers, and sections, left and right. Today, Gear Live has over 20,000 articles spread across our various sections, headed up by some of the best writers in the blogging game. We’ve got video shows, giveaways, and a social network that we are building as well. Regardless of how many things we’ve got going on from the past, we will always have some neat tricks up our collective sleeves in the future.

So how are we celebrating? Well, how about if we gave you presents? Since it’s our fifth birthday, we decided we would give away five Mophie Juice Pack Airs. After all, people are all over the iPhone 3G S if our numbers are correct (they are,) and what better way to celebrate than by doubling the battery life of your iPhone 3G or 3G S?

We’ve had the NewerTech miniStack v3 quad interface powered hub external storage solution running for 9 months now, and we are reporting back with our review of the device. The miniStack v3 is a hard drive enclosure that had FireWire 800, FireWire 400, USB 2.0, and eSATA ports, giving you four ways to connect this external storage device to your computer. It supports Plug and Play, and is simple to set up and use. Plus, as you’ll see, it sits atop a Mac mini perfectly, hence the name miniStack. The HP Vivienne Tam edition digital clutch netbook, designed for fashion-concious women on the go, is definitely an eye-catching piece of tech. However, the HP Mini 1000 netbook is pretty much the exact same computer, minus the fancy peony flowers and striking red finish. We give you a look at both netbooks in this episode, showing you all the key differences, so you can decide on which you want to pick up. If you’re an NBA fan, then this HP Take All the Action With You contest is going to be right up your alley. Even better? We are partnering with about 24 other sites to bring you some exclusive prizes as well. We will go into all the details after the jump, but here it is in a nutshell:

By entering the HP-Microsoft contest, you are entered to win a grand prize that allows you to see Kevin Garnett and the Celtics play a home game in Boston, and an away game in a West Coast city. That’s right, coast-to-coast baby! That includes VIP tickets to the games, airfare, hotel, and some HP gear as well. At the very least, check it out. So, that’s one contest. So, remember that LG Scarlet Series HDTV that we gave you a look at the other day? Well, now we are giving it away to one of you, in conjunction with ExpoTV! That’s right, you have a shot at walking away with this 52-inch beauty. Want in? Here’s how it works:

1. Head on over to the contest page on ExpoTV
2. Hit the sign up button at the bottom of that page
3. Submit a video review of any electronic device you have access to. For each review, you get one entry into the contest. For every LG product that you review, you get five entries. There is no limit to the number of devices you can review. Heck, if you want to, submit 10 a day.
4. Anytime someone on ExpoTV marks your review as “Helpful”, you earn an extra entry.
