We’ve had the NewerTech miniStack v3 quad interface powered hub external storage solution running for 9 months now, and we are reporting back with our review of the device. The miniStack v3 is a hard drive enclosure that had FireWire 800, FireWire 400, USB 2.0, and eSATA ports, giving you four ways to connect this external storage device to your computer. It supports Plug and Play, and is simple to set up and use. Plus, as you’ll see, it sits atop a Mac mini perfectly, hence the name miniStack. One of this year’s hottest topics is storage.  It seems like we’re about two steps away from getting flash drives as prizes in cereal boxes.  With the release of OSX and its Time Machine app, backing up computers has become easier than ever.  Enter Data Robotics’ Drobo storage robot.

As easy to use as a flash drive, the Drobo has four slots to accommodate 3.5” SATA I or II hard drives, and automatically makes redundant copies of data in order to protect from single drive failure.  Drobo uses 2.0 to make backing up quickly, and is fully operable with OSX and Windows 2000 and up.

Hitachi is working on packing an insanely large amount of storage into an incredibly tiny space by way of their iVDR technology. We speak with Hitatchi about iVDR in this clip, where they mention squeezing 760 GB into a 2.5-inch sized drive. iVDR is expected to launch in April over in Japan, and a 160 GB module will likely cost around $300 USD. We get a look at a couple of prototype ideas as well, all in this clip.
