Bleeding Edge TV 608: Samson Go Mic Pro Review
Pretty much every PC has a horrible built-in microphone, so if you are looking to do Skype chats, podcast recordings, Twitch streaming, dictation, or anything else that requires great audio - you'll end up sounding pretty horrible if you don't have a great mic. You don't need to know what the BEST PC microphone is, but you just need something decent enough to capture your voice without making you sound like you are in a wind tunnel. That's where the Samson Go Mic Connect comes in.

You can find desktop and laptop computers at all sorts of price ranges, from budget to premium, but no matter how much you pay for your device, it seems that the one place that they all suffer is in the built-in microphone.
So, if there’s one accessory that you’d want to pick up if you plan on doing Facetime calls, Skype videos, streaming on Twitch, using voice-to-text software, or even recording a podcast - it’s a good external microphone. Today I give you a look at one such device in the Samson Go Mic Connect.
The Go Mic Connect is a small, portable stereo USB microphone, which will be a nice improvement over your computers on-board mic, and it’s compatible with both Mac and Windows without the need for installing any annoying drivers. Looking inside the box, first you’ll find a quick guide explaining how to get set up and the features of the device. Samson include the mini USB cable for getting it hooked up, as well as a soft pouch that you can store it in to keep the device protected when you’re taking it with you on the go. And then of course, there’s the Go Mic Connect itself.
On front you’ve got the speaker grill with Samson logo, and on back there’s a 3.5mm stereo headphone jack and mini USB port. On top there’s a mute button for the microphone, and then on the bottom there the versatile mounting clip. You can use this to mount it to the top of a laptop display or monitor, or to just prop it up on its own. It’s super adjustable and I found that I could even mount it on top of a television.
As you can see, this looks a bit different from your standard microphone - almost more like a webcam. That’s because of the layout of the array of the microphones inside this thing, one on each side. This allows for the Go Mic Connect to create an audio pickup beam that can zero in on the main vocal source of sound. Active Noise Cancellation will minimize background noise. This is part of the Samson Sound Deck software, available for Windows and Mac. Windows users also get a couple of extra features - a built-in recorder, as well as Echo Erase which Samson says will eliminate feedback caused by room ambiance or external speakers - that means you can have a two way conversation without the need for a headset. Both Windows and Mac get the digital noise reduction, and equalizer.
And if you're curious about how the microphone sounds, you've actually been listening to the audio this whole time. It's what I'm used to record this video.
So there you have it - that was your look at the Samson Go Mic Connect, which you can pick up right now to improve your audio. Now I want to hear from you - do you record or stream audio on a regular basis, and if so, for what activity? Are you a podcaster? A Twitch streamer? Take a lot of Skype calls?
