IT IS TRUE
wait, why am I shouting?
It is true that the eee only recognizes 1 GB, because Xandros is retarded.
If you install a real OS like XP, Linux, or OSX, it should recognize 2 GB.
Hey guys. Very nice. Just got my Eee PC and without your help, I wouldn’t have had the first clue how to install the memory chip I got with it. Thanks!
It’s a bit dangerous to upgrade memory on a laptop without taking out the battery…uupppss:)

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hi, My Asus Eee 4GB Surf does not have the back square panel…it solid, I took the 4 screws off put it does not open so I tried going thur the keypad area which had additional six screws and one with a warranty message sticker on it. It had a silver panel blocking the inside…it would not open on the side with the earplug outlet….do you have another video to show how to upgrade the 512 DDR memory on it?
I have a auss 1000, I installed a 2gb ram by Crucial. The computer works but recognise the ram as only 1 ram. I am using windows xp. Is the computer working as a 2 gb ram? How do I know? Help would be appreciated.
...if putting in 2GB module in eee pc 1000 you need to restart computer after installing the RAM and keep pressing F2. then press F10 to accept the settings in the BIOS. now your eee pc will recognize the 2 GB module
yeah,.. plug and play… right
peace, scott
Scott, you’re a genius!!
A statue should be erected in your honor for your great fix.
Peace to you too.
Thank you so much for your clear, short tutorial, it was exactly what I needed to reassure myself before I went and popped that bottom panel out! Now I am enjoying my 1GB ride, yay! :D
Hi…great video and very appreciated. I am thinking of purchasing the asus eec HE 280, which has 1 gig of ram upgradeable to 2. Thing is, the site offers an extra gig for $30 which is a deal (specially since I could install it myself now), but does that mean it would be useless….that I would have to have the 2 gig in one module? Maybe this is a question for asus so I apologize if I’m asking a dumb question. I have no clue if it will be the 4 or 8 gig. Do you have any knowledge of this anyone?
Thanks, Carol ![]()
For the record, I looked online at Cherows.com and have decided against saving approx. $150 as I truly fear it is a scam.
Wow… Are there people who need visual explanations for this?!? I mean, this is like upgrading RAM for any other laptop! The limitations are well know (Standard Xandros 1Gig, everything else 2Gg), but that’s really it… Upgrading the RAM on my Fujitsu Siemends Pa1510 was way harder because one modules was under the keyboard! Imagine that! (Hope you enabled your sarcasm detector…)
Oh my head, yes! I only bought at Best Buy for the longest time and was made to feel that everything was very ‘delicate’ and that I should have them take care of things until someone like yourself gave me a good talkin to. Now I know that these are not impossible things for me. Still, I didn’t get a backup CD…you know…the system, when I bought the laptop (this is my bigger one…the 18.4 Acer) and I’m not sure this is something I can handle. Have you ever done that?
Carol

had to laugh at you laughing at me….don’t blame you. We didn’t even have computers in school when I went. Now I live on them.
I had that same problem, which is actually why i landed here on this site….. i am running windows xp home edition on my Eee Pc and i upgraded to 2 gb using a wal-mart purchased “kingston 2gb DDR2 667MHz ” RAM module. i had gotten to the point where i would have downgraded my newest little mobile toy to just my “other” backup pc. I changed my paging file to custom size and specified the range to go from 200 to 256. I checked my system properties on the general tab and my new ram that i been using for over 2 months with 512 physical RAM now indicated that i have 1.99 gb physical RAM.
hi i have a problem with instaling ram on my ASUS Eee PC 4GB Windows XP. i brought a DANE-ELEC 2GB RAM upgrade. watched the video and put it in switched on worked well. really happy with it untill i restarted it the it let me put in my pass word loaded the desktop, then after about 10sec the screen goes funny lots of lines and fussing. cant do any think. i hope some one can help me out im not fantastic with the hardware side of computers. thanks ollie
